Maitresse gets her Wellingtons

Giboulées.  n. f. : Pluie soudaine et de peu de durée, accompagnée souvent de grêle. (Petit Larousse, 1997)*

A few days ago, I capitulated to the giboulées de mars.  Little matter if March is almost over and sunny days lie ahead.  Let’s be honest: this is Paris.  And I finally have to dress for the frequent bouts of wet weather.

Tired of getting rained on, I bought an umbrella.

Tired of having water soak through the soles of my shoes, I bought these from Aigle.

Aren’t they the cutest ever? I can’t wait to wear them.  Let it rain! (That is, after we enjoy this nice sunny weather for a couple of days.)

*Giboulée: n.f. : Sudden rain of short duration, often accompanied by hail. (Petit Larousse, 1997)

Oh they are fun…but now you have to buy a nifty bag to carry your shoes in. (I made the mistake of staying in my rubber rain boots, although they are cool! at some event type thing…and got a few looks as to say: “ok you are not in grade five anymore…”)

  3. Again, the French trounce the English with their fabulously onomatopoeic rain words.
(Nothing sums up rain better than the mouth-movement involved in saying ‘pluie’).
    ….
Here in England, Lively Waterproof Boots are gaining ground on Oddly Expensive Bags as the ultimate female fashion accessory.
I guess it’s a European thing, then, not just the UK….

Paris was one big downpour a few summers ago. So it’s probably a good thing to keep around protection for your precious pieds, since you never know what might happen.
In case it doesn’t rain, you can always use them to hike through the rubble at Gare du Nord.

Can you get a matching umbrella?

Oh they are the cutest. What a perfect shade of yellow. I want some, even though it never rains here. Take a photo of you wearing them!

  9. I wore them last Friday to teach and although I brought shoes to change into I ended up just keeping them on… I wonder what my students thought of that!
And let me just say– it’s true. Nothing puts a spring in your step like knowing you’re wearing bright yellow rain boots!
